A number of prisons (see slideshow below) were visited in Isabella province where talks were given and gifts given out to the inmates for their physical and spiritual needs. The slide show below shows photos at San Jose City District Jail in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija; Maddela District Jail in Maddela, Quirino Province; Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Jail in Bayombong , Nueva Vizcaya; ; Guimba District Jail in Guimba, Nueva Ecija; Solano District Jail in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya; ; Cabarruguis District Jail in Cabarruguis, Quirino Province; Quirino Provincial Jail in Cabarruguis, Quirino Province. Also below is a slideshow of photos of the projects the inmates are making for their livelihood in the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Jail and Quirino Provincial Jail which they sell to the visitors in their jails in order for them to earn money to give to their loved ones.. God has given talents for the inmates to make those projects so that their minds cannot wander to evil things. They are also praying inside the jails asking God for forgiveness for the sins and praying the holy rosary asking for the intercession for our Blessed Mother in their times of suffering.
Other activities this month included a visit to a Catholic radio station, Police provincial office and provincial government office to encourage compassion to the inmates, and with the latter, to secure support and access to inmates. Five prisons were visited recently, La Trinidad District jail and Benguet provincial jail in Benguet Province; Baguio city jail and also Agoo district jail and Aringay jail in La Union.
As well as giving talks a number of items were distributed to the inmates, for example rosaries, prayer cards, paper and envelopes,( to enable prisoners to send letters to their families), laundry soap and other items to make life a little easier. Pictured above at the office of Naguilian Jail in Naguilian,La Union with the materials I will be giving to the inmates being inspected by jail guards. Below:- with the young seminarians in the Diocese of San Fernando,La Union after I have given spiritual talks to the seminarians and telling them to visit and care for the inmates in their jails. This week two jails in San Fernando were visited, La union and San Fernando Jails. As usual a number of items were given to the inmates including rosaries, biscuits & candy and paper and envelopes so that the prisoners can reconnect with family members.
The most recent visits to prisons were to:- Bantay Municipal Jail in Bantay, Ilocos Sur; Tagudin Municipal Jail in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur; Candon City Jail in Candon, Ilocos Sur. Abra Provincial Jail in Bangued, Abra and Bucay District Jail in Bucay, Abra. As usual a number of items were given to the prisoners to lift their spirits and so they know they are not forgotten & loved. Manuel was also interviewed on the Catholic Radio station in Bangued, and asked the people for their concern for the inmates and to help the inmates. Some of the inmates make these handicrafts pictured below:- The trip to Northern Luzon is already underway and so far 3 jails in Laoag have been visited , one in Batac Ilocos Norte and also Vigan City jail in Ilocos Sur. Manuel shared his testimony with several hundred inmates and brought gifts to share with them, some for the body, some for the soul !
He also gave talks in two seminaries in Ilocos Norte, St Mary's and Mary, Cause of our joy. This will be a very good insight to the young seminarians so they can understand the plight of prisoners as well as a testimony of God's goodness in rescuing souls in need of His mercy and deliverence. While in Laoag, there was also an opportunity to share his story with the wider community as he gave a talk on Radyo Totoo as well. Thanks for your prayers & support. Please keep Manual and all the prisoners in your prayers. Two visits were made to the Manila Police Custodial Detention centre on UN Avenue over the last couple of weeks. As well as giving his testimony which touched the hearts of the detainees there was also a distribution of goods, biscuits, soap, hand towels, pictures, rosaries and prayer cards to the 122 detainees. See letter from St Vincent de Paul Parish below who facilitated the visit. In February Manuel will be going to the north of Luzon for an extended series of visits to several prisons in Ilocos Sur, ilocos Norte, Pangasinan ,La union, Abra, Benguet, Bulucan, and Nueva Ecija. A total of 31 prisons are on the scehedule. These are all Bureau of Jail Management and penology facilites. See letter below from BJMP.
